I cant believe it's been over two years since I last wrote on our blog. The time has flown by and we have been really working our tails off here at The Willow Tree. We have also learned so much about the business, its amazing. John and I have also been able to develop our brand of hospitality. Meaning, we have really fine tuned what kind of services we offer and how we offer those services. I really sound like a business owner, wow.
What I do know, is that we are not fancy people. If you are looking for a 5 star resort, Cooperstown has The Otesaga Hotel and Resort and its gorgeous. We are also not stuffy, Victorian Bed and Breakfast owners that spy on you from the kitchen. We want you to feel welcome here. We know you have been on the road, and have had a long day. Shoes are optional here. What we do have is a quiet , clean place to rest your head and a homemade country breakfast made to order when you wake up. We make everything from scratch. John and I pride ourselves in making your stay personable and comfortable.
The house itself is really a work in progress. We spent the first year renovating the internal systems. Internal systems, you say? Let's see..we replaced the water pump, the hot water heater and over 100 years of mismatched pipes to improve the water pressure. John spent hours rewiring the electric so one person can run a hairdryer without blacking out the entire house! We also had the house wired for Carbon monoxide and fire detectors for safety. There were a million little touches too many to mention, but our "Pilot" year was a huge success. So much so, that we opened all six rooms last year.
Last year was even more successful and equally as informative. We bought new climate control systems and rebuilt the chimney to install a 1920's wood burning stove in the parlor. Bought more linen and new mattresses. We had a Coke cooler installed under the stairs for our guests, so they can have access to cold drinks anytime. Upgrading and improving our home for our guests is the funnest part of the work.
This winter we will be decorating and making our rooms more comfortable. Its so exciting. I hope to keep this blog going through the year. Some of the adventures that have gone on here are really entertaining and you just can't make this stuff up.
